David Wallom, Associate Director – Innovation, Oxford eResearch Centre gave presented at the EGI Community Forum on behalf of the SIENA Project, during the EGI Standards workshop at 14:00, on 29 March.
His presentation highlighted the overall objectives of the SIENA Project and focused on the SIENA Roadmap on Distributed Computing Infrastructure for e-Science and Beyond and its short and longer term recommendations.

OCCI Leads Cloud Standards Arena

German Government Recognises OCCI as Cloud Standards Leader.

The German Federal Minstry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) has fully endorsed OCCI in its freshly published analysis on “The Standardisation Environment for Cloud Computing”.
This is a big vote of confidence in OCCI's work which was echoed by the UK G-Cloud report. Being picked up by the German government is obviously kudos to the community’s work, especially as it shows OCCI as a leader of current Cloud standardisation activities.
Lately, OCCI has received a lot of attention: the leading open-source cloud computing software stack implements it, a commercially focused project and related companies builds its whole ecosystem around it, the largest eInfrastructure provider in Europe endorses it, and many other things are ongoing around it.
The study identifies 19 standardisation organisations as “leading”, among which well-known international ones such as ISO, NIST, SNIA, and DMTF are listed next to OGF, the home of OCCI, and other European ones, such as ETSI and BITKOM.

SIENA's David Wallom, Associate Director – Innovation, Oxford eResearch Centre will be presenting at the EGI Community Forum later this month. His presentation will focus on the highlights from the SIENA Roadmap on Distributed Computing Infrastructure for e-Science and Beyond in Europe and some of the main outcomes from last month's Cloudscape IV event.

The EGI Community Forum will be held, together with the second EMI Technical Conference, at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) in Garching near Munich. The event is an opportunity for the research community that depends upon distributed computing infrastructure to share knowledge, needs and vision for how the European Grid Infrastructure can better support their research over the coming years.
